Thursday 28 November 2024 until Friday 29 november 2024
Universiteit van Amsterdam
University of Amsterdam | UvA and SBMK are joining forces for the SBMK day on
friday 29 november 2024 in combination with an
international expert meeting on thursday 28 november 2024:
FAIR use of Artist Interviews for Conservators and Curators.
The importance of oral history is vitally important for the management and conservation of modern and contemporary art. Almost 25 years ago, SBMK, together with ICN (now part of RCE), started the Pilot Project
Artist interviews, é One of the most important results of the groundbreaking symposium
Modern Art: Who Cares? The book
The Artist Interview, is still used for conducting interviews, but making them accessible has been less popular for a long time. It is not very appealing, requires time, precision and expertise, and is therefore often omitted.
The three-year project
Oral History-Stories at the Museum Around Artworks (OH-SMArt 2022-2025) focuses on finding, storing and reusing interviews in museums, so that collection items can be properly cared for with the right information. The data must be asó stored so that mutual exchange between different systems is problem-free. This complies with the FAIR Data Principles
- Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable - that every publicly funded institution should adhere to. The OH-SMArt project is carried out by the University of Amsterdam | UvA led by Sanneke Stigter, in collaboration with Sound and Vision, DANS-KNAW and the University of Twente | UT. Funding comes from the Platform for Digital Infrastructure for Social Sciences and Humanities (PDI-SSH).
